Correct Posture

As you go about your daily life, making sure that you are using correct posture will be important in order to prevent the development of lower back pain.  Those who do not use correct posture often notice that they are quick to fatigue throughout their afternoon and evening because they are not getting in a fresh and full supply of oxygen to the cells of the body.

To help offset this, be sure that you do a quick check over your body using the following tips so that you know you are using correct posture.

Head Positioning

The very first thing to check on to determine whether you’re using correct posture is your head position.  Ideally you want to have the head slightly elevated and leaning forwards ever so slightly.  Whatever you do avoid letting the head move too far back on the body as that will place a significant amount of stress on the muscles surrounding the neck.

Spinal Alignment

Second, the next thing to check for correct posture is that you’re utilizing good spinal alignment.  Best will be if you can have a chiropractor check out the current position of the spine and make sure that it’s fixed how it should be, but if not, compare a picture of a proper spine to how yours looks when you’re in the relaxed position.

If you see any extra curves or hunches that shouldn’t be there, that’s an immediate signal to you that these issues must be fixed soon.  If not, back pain could develop.

Hip Position

Third, to assess correct posture you cannot overlook the position of the hips. Ideally you want the hips to be pulled upwards so that it removes any lower back sway that’s present.  Usually if you think of squeezing in the bum this will automatically improve the way your hips are positioned on the body and solve the problem entirely.

Foot Position

Finally, make sure that your foot position is in alignment as well.  Keep the feet about shoulder width apart when standing to evenly distribute the body weight and prevent a build-up of stress on the joints.

So if you can always make sure to check over these factors for correct posture, you will find that you have much better back health and don’t experience any pain down the road.
